Viva Chicken recently opened in Charlotte’s Elizabeth neighborhood and its bringing some Peruvian flare to the Queen City Food Scene. Viva Chicken’s main focus is on Pollo a la Brasa (Peruvian rotisserie chicken) and rocks an eco vibe with 100% natural and free range chicken cooked fresh every 45 minutes. The plates, silverware, straws, and cups are 100% biodegradable and they are the only place in Charlotte to get a bangin’ house-made lemonade infused with basil, rosemary and mint.
We dropped in for lunch and after a couple of seconds looking over the menu we were ready to dive into our first peruvian foodie experience. I kicked off the fun with a peruvian street sandwich known as”Wow Lomito”. The wow lomito came with marinated stir fired sirloin, mild aji pepper, onion, and tomato on a grilled artisan ciabatta bread with a side of fried plantains. The sandwich (especially the chiabatta) was delicious and the fried plantains made for the perfect combination.
Ella got the 1/4 chicken with white rice and a house salad for her lunch. The Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken (Pollo a la Brasa) is marinated for 24 hours with a family recipe of exotic herbs and spices then slow roasted on a rotating spit over an open fire with hardwood charcoal. The result of all of the hard work is some damn “Finger lickin’ good” rotisserie chicken.
We hit up Viva Chicken for a quick bite at lunch and our first impression was very positive. With their commitment to eco friendly food with integrity and damn good lemonade we’re sure we’ll be heading back soon.
