The Cavalier Store

When we planned our trip to Lynchburg, Va for Thanksgiving we knew that beyond turkey there was food that must be eaten. The list was full of Lynchburg favorites including the Texas Inn, Rivermont Pizza and The Cavalier Store. “The Cav” has been a family favorite since my parents were children and it was just a convenience store with a lunch counter. Its now a full blown restaurant with a simple but delicious menu and all of the personality that makes it a Lynchburg institution. All of the tables have been carved with the names of generations of Cav lovers. The walls are decorated with licence plates and the same grumpy man has been there taking orders since i can remember.

It seems that everyone has a Cav favorite. Mine is the B.L.T with a small fry with seasoning salt and ranch served with a frosty mug of root beer to wash it all down. The fries are my favorite part. They are thick cut wedge fries doused with seasoning salt and then i cover them generously with their delicious ranch dressing, there’s just nothing quite like it. I get this same meal every time I visit the Cav and I always love it.

Curtis got a cheeseburger with onion rings and a root beer. The burger was good but it was the onion rings that were the real star of the show. They were super light and crunchy and the onion was nice and thin so it didn’t slide out of the batter and slap you on the chin like so many other onion rings do. I am such a big fan of the fries that I have never tried anything else… but next time I’m definitely getting the onion rings.

The Cavalier is another Lynchburg favorite that I just can’t pass up when visiting and it never disappoints. If you haven’t been yet… you really should go :)
