Thai 1st

Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese… we’ve been there and done that, so this week we rolled into the recently opened Thai 1st in Blakeney.

Ella loves Thai Tea and she can’t resist getting one every time she checks out a Thai restaurant.

We kicked off tonight with a round of Chicken Satay. The chicken skewers were lightly grilled, dipped in coconut sauce, and served with a side of peanut sauce. The chicken was pretty bland in flavor until you dipped it in the peanut sauce which was pretty good.

Next up we checked out the Lettuce Wraps.

The lettuce wraps were served with chicken and mixed with ginger, onions, pineapple, carrots, cashew nuts, celery, scallions, cilantro and a touch of mint.

We absolutely loved the lettuce wraps and they were the favorite of the night. The only complaints we had was that there was a lack of usable pieces of decent lettuce.

For Ella’s entree she decided to go with the classic Thai dish, the Pad Thai.

Although Ella has eaten at several Thai restaurants, this was actually her first experience with the dish and she loved it. It had a slight sweetness that paired perfectly with the lime juice. The Veggies were fresh and crunchy and the dish was piled high with delicious chicken and shrimp.

Oh, and her favorite part… having enough leftovers to eat for days!

For my entree I went with the double Thai spicy red curry chicken.

It came out in two sections.. first being the freshly prepared white rice.

Next was the bowl of red curry chicken packed with sliced green bell peppers, bamboo shoots, and basil.

While ordering I noticed the curry was listed as being spicy… I had to laugh just a little. I asked them to make it extra spicy and the waitress informed me that the “thai spicy” was pretty hot and anything over that would be pretty crazy. So naturally I ordered it “triple thai spicy” and loved every bite of it :)

For dessert we hit up the fried bananas with coconut ice cream.

We loved this dish!

I have a freaking banana allergy that causes my throat to close up and my breathing to become restricted… and I couldn’t get enough of this stuff :) My allergy is only triggered with raw bananas so the fried bananas were perfect for me and when paired with the coconut ice cream we were in heaven!

After the waitress found out we were going to recap our visit they offered us a tower of sake on the house. We got the plum, peach and pear sake. They were all light and fruity with just a touch of sweetness that added up to a wonderful finishing touch to a delicious meal.

Overall we really liked Thai 1st, and if you’re in the area you should check it out. We don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
