Queen City Q Now Open!
Award Winning Restaurateur Creates Another Great BBQ Joint in Charlotte
John Duncan, owner of Charlotte’s venerable Bonterra Dining & Wine Room is excited to announce that his latest concept, Queen City Q, is now open. The restaurant is located at 225 East 6th Street in Uptown Charlotte at 7th Street Station. “It’s a very exciting time in uptown and this is a fantastic opportunity to bring great BBQ to center city in a highly visible location.”
Duncan is a 35-year restaurant veteran who created Mac’s Speed Shop and Icehouse Southend before selling his interests in those concepts in 2009. Since then he’s been looking for the right opportunity to begin another BBQ concept. After being introduced to entrepreneurs Bryan Meredith and Sue Johnston, Queen City Q was born.
The first order of business was to get his trusted, original crew together. “Its been 2 years since I sold out of Mac’s and I’m excited to have the band back together and making that great BBQ we used to have even better” said Duncan. “You’ll definitely recognize a lot of old friends both on the staff and in the dining room.”
Pitmaster Dan “Boone” Gibson headlines the kitchen staff. A Charlotte native and CPCC Culinary graduate, Boone served as Opening Pitmaster at Mac’s Speed Shop and created all the recipes used at that restaurant. At Queen City Q he recreates his families cherished BBQ and sides recipes. Much of the kitchen and servers re-join Duncan as did longtime local restaurant general manager Thomas Wickham who served in a consulting role with The Q.
For Meredith and Johnston, the creation of Queen City Q is also an opportunity to add jobs to the local economy. “I am thrilled to be Partnered with John Duncan and his band of Q experts. In addition to that we’ve assembled a total of 45+ employees, many of whom were unemployed or under employed when we hired them” “Having lived in Charlotte for over 20 years, making a positive impact on the local economy is an important goal of ours” continued Meredith.
Queen City Q features the freshest Q smoked daily and served hot, including brisket, ribs, chicken, sausage and seafood, plus an extensive list of fresh sides, innovative tacos, salads, appetizers and scratch desserts. 30+ taps and 75+ different bottles featuring craft beers, an exciting wine list and full bar available.
