Hickory Tavern

After returning from our weekend camping trip at Morrow Mountain, we decided to head over to Hickory Tavern and unwind from the perils of sleeping on the ground and living off of hot dogs and marshmallows. The place was packed but we still got a seat promptly and our server greeted us and took our drink orders relatively quickly. I was craving something huge so I ran with the large nacho platter.. for only $9 its easily the largest thing there in a cost to size ratio.

We had six people in our group so the wait was a little longer than usual but nothing completely unexpected. Once the food arrived we noticed there were some winners and one BIG looser. My nachos were a huge portion of tortilla chips with fresh toppings and deliciously mouthwatering… unfortunately for my little brother, his salad was unforgettably depressing.

He got the fiesta salad ($10) and I cant imagine he will ever get it again. It came in a metal bowl that was only half full and the chicken was still refrigerator cold. He asked if the salad usually came out so small and the server replied “yeah”. I wished I got a picture of it but I was so hungry I didn’t think of it until afterwards. We have had the salads at Hickory Tavern before and they are usually so big the lettuce is spilling over the top and they are a challenge to finish.. but for my brother.. it was maybe 6 bites and it was gone. He also asked if the chicken was usually served cold as most chicken salads usually have fresh grilled chicken… the server again just said “yeah”.

When a consumer is clearly unsatisfied with a product or service it is imperative that the provider reconcile the issue. We clearly expressed a strong dislike for the salad and our server just didn’t seem to care at all. There was no attempt to improve the situation and for that.. we will not recommend this location .

Update… We hated the salad so much we tried contacting Hickory Tavern and are still waiting on a reply.
