The repeat winner of Creative Loafings Best Mexican Food by critics choice is the location for my latest culinary critique. I went to Cocina Latina on a Friday night and the first thing I was surprised by was that I was one of three customers.
The waiter seated us and took our order quickly I got a variety of tacos so I could tried a little bit of everything. I also got guacamole to go with the chips and salsa of which were all great. The carne asada taco was good though not great, unfortunatly the best place to get carne asada in Charlotte isnt open anymore. The carnitas taco was juicy, fatty, crispy and perfect.. I couldnt have asked for better carnitas. The pollo taco was on the flavorless side and not worth trying. The pastor taco was one of the best tacos on my plate… but the best pastor taco in Charlotte is down in Waxhaw. Finally, the chorizo taco was as good as chorizo gets, full of artery clogging greasy goodness :)
Cocina Latina made for a great night of dining and I would easily recommend it to anyone in the area looking for great and truely authentic Mexican food. However, its not the Best of Charlotte.
